When you are going through foreclosure it can be a scary
and confusing time. It is hard to understand what your
rights in foreclosure are and where to turn for help. If you
have already done some research about foreclosure, the
following quiz should help you understand what else you
might still need to find out. If you are just starting your
foreclosure research, the following quiz is a good starting
point for helping you understand what questions you need to
find out the answers to.
- Do you know what a right of redemption is? Is there
one in your state? If so, how long is it?
- Do you know what a right to cure is? Is there one in
your state? If so, when do you have to file one to save
your home?
- What is judicial foreclosure?
- What is non-judicial foreclosure?
- Does your state have judicial or non-judicial
foreclosure or both? If your state has both, which one
will be used or is being used on your home?
- Who is your contact at your mortgage company? What
is their name, phone number and fax number?
- What alternatives to foreclosure can your lender
offer you?
- Who is the HUD counselor in your area? What is their
name and phone number? Have you made or had an
appointment with them?
- Does your area offer classes to help you stop
foreclosure and to help you understand your rights in
foreclosure?
- Does your state offer a hotline or other resources
to help you with your foreclosure?
- What national resources are available to you?
- If you cannot stop foreclosure, when will you be
evicted?
If you do not know the answers to all of the questions
above, do not worry. All that means is that you need to do
some more research to find out more about your
rights in foreclosure
and what options you have and what resources there are to
help you.
