One
of the best things that you can do (if not
the best thing) when you are in the middle
of foreclosure is to educate yourself about
the foreclosure process. There are many
different steps during foreclosure and if
you want to stop
mortgage foreclosure, you need to
educate yourself about what those steps are.
The
first thing that you need to understand
about foreclosure is when your mortgage
company will actually start the foreclosure
process. How quickly your bank starts this
often depends at least in part on you. If
you are maintaining good communication with
them, this can help delay the start of
foreclosure. However this is not true of
every bank. Some banks will start the
foreclosure process after the third month of
missed payments, others take more time. It
all depends on your bank. Talk to them to
understand when they will start the
foreclosure process on your home.
Look
at, read and make sure that you understand
every document that you get from the
mortgage companies and their lawyers
throughout the foreclosure process. If there
is something that you do not understand, do
some research and educate yourself. You will
be your own best advocate throughout the
foreclosure process. No one cares as much as
you do that your home is in foreclosure. If
you really want to prevent the foreclosure
of your home, you need to understand
everything about every document that comes
your way.
At
every point in the foreclosure process, you
have an opportunity to save your home. The
main way to do this is through honest
communication with your bank. Most banks,
especially right now, will work with you to
help you save your home. But it will take
persistence on your part. The mortgage
companies are busy, especially the
foreclosure departments.
Call
and call as often as necessary. Call
repeatedly but don't get too annoying or
they won't return your calls. Keep your cool
and stay professional. Also understand that
many of them will not answer their phone. If
you were dealing with people who are in the
middle of foreclosure every day, you'd
probably not answer your phone either. Stay
calm and rational. They are far more likely
to call you back if it doesn't sound like
they're going to get someone yelling at them
when they do call you.
