Have you ever heard the expression “attitude is
everything?” That is an area that is extremely important
when you are working with the foreclosure department at your
lender. Your attitude can drastically impact the help that
you experience from your lender’s representatives. I
recognize that my attitude impacted the degree of help that
I got throughout my foreclosure action. I received better
help with foreclosure when I was nice to them. When I was
mad or harsh, they did not answer their telephone or did not
return my phone calls.
If you have a little compassion for them and think about what
they have to deal with every day, it makes it a bit easier
to understand their point of view. Their entire job revolves
around foreclosure. That is what they do. Think for a moment
about what their typical day at work must be like. It is
probably filled with arguments with borrowers, people
yelling at them, maybe even people crying on the phone to
them. Think about how stressful and emotionally draining
that must be. I don't think I'll ever understand how they
get anyone to take that job. So now that you know what their
life at work must be like, think about something else for a
minute. If you were them, who would you want to deal with: a
borrower who sounded like they were about to explode or a
borrower who was kind and easy to work with? Who would you
call back first? Whose calls would you take. Try to be the
borrower that they want to deal with.
Consider the type of individual that you relish talking to
in your own work and endeavor to be that individual for the
person that you are working with in your lender's
foreclosure department. You will be more apt to receive
help with foreclosure
and an enjoyable side result is that you also have an
improved attitude about your foreclosure. That is definitely
how it occurred for me.
Remember what your parents taught you about saying please
and thank you. Thank the person that you are dealing with in
your bank's foreclosure department. It goes back to
remembering what their day is like. Chances are that they
don't often get people who say thank you to them. We all
want to feel appreciated. You have to remember that they are
just doing their job. They do not make company policy, they
only enforce it. And even if they are not upfront with you
about what that policy is, still do what you can to still be
calm and in control. At the very least, do it for your own
sake.
There are many areas that you are not in charge of in your
foreclosure but your attitude is one area that you are in
charge of and the degree of help you experience will be
affected by what precisely that attitude is. If you desire
help, try to be nice, polite and kind when
working with the foreclosure specialist at your lender.
